Buying Guide: Why choose 9k Gold Sheets?
Choosing the metal is the first step in the creation process. 375 (9k) gold possesses unique properties that distinguish it from 18k gold.
1. The Advantages of 9-Carat Gold for the Designer
- The Price: Containing 37.5% pure gold, it is approximately 50% more affordable than 18-karat gold. This allows you to create substantial pieces (cuffs, large rings) without significantly increasing your production costs.
- Hardness: Thanks to its high copper and silver content, 9k is a very hard and springy metal. It offers excellent mechanical rigidity, ideal for thin parts that must not bend.
- Appearance: A soft yellow color, slightly less intense than 18k, highly appreciated for its vintage or discreet look.

2. What strip thickness should I choose?
Our cut-to-size strips , minimum 10mm wide and 10mm long, are available in 4 thicknesses to cover all workbench needs:
- 0.30 mm (The Fine): For economical bezel settings , decorative appliqués or small cut pieces (lightweight earrings).
- 0.50 mm (The Standard): The versatile thickness for simple ring shanks , stamped medals and prototypes.
- 0.80 mm (The Robust): For rings that have some hold, bangle bracelets or pieces to be engraved.
- 1.00 mm (The Solid): For forging , men's signet rings and thick wedding bands. Unbeatable strength.

Technical FAQ
What type of solder should I use for 9k gold?
Caution: Do not use 18k solder! The color and melting point are different. Always use our 9k Gold Solder Pallions , specifically designed for invisible joints.
Is 9-carat gold difficult to work with?
It is a little "drier" and harder than 18k. It will need to be annealed (heated) a little more often during rolling or shaping to prevent it from breaking, but it files and polishes very well.
Does 9k gold oxidize?
Because it contains a lot of copper, it may tarnish slightly over time. A simple polish will restore its shine. It is a metal that develops character over time.
